"Three in Two Thousand". We were given the commercial release of three different versions of the Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon R Movie in the year 2000. Don't know which version you want to pick up or confused about the difference between them? I've taken the time to explain what is included in each of them.

Sailormoon R Subtitled Box VHS Subtitled Release

Name: Pretty Soldier Sailormoon R Movie
Language: Japanese with English Subtitles
Released: August 8, 1999
Music: Moonlight Densetsu, MOON REVENGE
Box Cover: Honestly, I think the Japanese version fans got a little ripped off with this box cover. It is quite cheezy and when I first got it, I was disappointed. Though, for the contents within, I can definitely live with a lame cover. As they say, "You cannot judge a book by it's cover."

Description: Special Uncut, Subtitled Edition
Explanation of Above: What this means is that it is in its purest, original form. The background music, theme music, voices, names, and places are all the same as it was when it was released in Japan. Sailormoon fans should definitely want to get back to its true roots (even if you are not a subtitle version fan) to see what it was truly like.

Sailormoon R Dubbed Box VHS English Dubbed Release

Name: Sailormoon R: Promise of the Rose
Language: English Dubbed
Released: February 8, 2000
Music: American Theme Song, Power of Love
Box Cover: Okay, I absolutely adore this cover with Serenity on it, smiling cutely. Even though it is not the original cover that was placed on the box in Japan, it is still nice. Looks like a trading card picture.

Description: Edited Dubbed Edition
Explanation of Above: This means most everything has been changed to format the DIC dubbed release of the TV series. All of the music has been altered along with the character names, background music, attacks, transformations, and so on. They even took out the entire beginning sequence of the movie where the girls are on the bus to the botanical garden and replaced it with a TV series-ish intro sequence. I have begun documenting the changes made to the movie in the Can a Rose Change? section.

I highly recommend if you have a DVD player to get that version so you can see how different and how much of the script they changed. If not, try picking up the subtitled version. Sailormoon fans should definitely want to get back to its true roots, even if it is just for reference, to see what it was truly like before all the changes.

Sailormoon R Dubbed Box DVD English & Japanese Hybrid Release

Name: Sailormoon R / Promise of the Rose
Language: English & Japanese Hybrid
Released: February 8, 2000
Music: Moonlight Densetsu, MOON REVENGE, American Theme Song, Power of Love
Box Cover: Okay, I absolutely adore this cover with Serenity on it, smiling cutely. Even though it is not the original cover that was placed on the box in Japan, it is still nice. Looks like a trading card picture.

Description: Uncut Special Edition
Explanation of Above: You have the option of watching the dubbed version or the subbed version... or the dubbed version with the subtitles on. If you do the last option it is pretty funny to see how different the dialogue is from the two versions.

In the Japanese version (with subtitles) it is in its purest, original form. The background music, theme music, voices, names and places are all the same as it was when it was released in Japan.

In the dubbed version you get all the original background music but the dubbed voices, attack calls, named and places are changed. The beginning Moonlight Densetsu is replaced by the American theme song, but MOON REVENGE plays during the battle song part. You have the option of playing the song they replaced it with in the dubbed VHS version at the beginning of the DVD as well as an art gallery and some other neat options.
