CAN A ROSE CHANGE? is a section that documents the changes made for the Edited Dubbed VHS. I will be comparing it to the original uncut versions so you can see the truth.

CHANGE 01 - Pervert or Crush?
This is my first choice of scene changing that the Original Japanese fans will slap their forheads over! That's right, Ami-chan's little comment on Mamoru-san has been completely changed. Now, it's understandable that the homosexual comment was dropped since a lot of children watch the dubbed version, but come on! For dubbed fans, click the link to see the original scene played out. For the Japanese w/subb fans, I will unveil what was dubbed by DIC.

Amy: That's strange seeing as everyone is in love with him.
Raye: Everybody including YOU Amy?

So, basically instead of Mamoru-san [Darien] being accused of being eye candy for men, Ami-chan [Amy] is being accused of having a crush on him! That change was plain wrong! In my opinion, that scene was one of the funniest and cutest until the change.

CHANGE 02 - Impalement or Loss of Balance?
This is the scene where the Sailor Team first finds out it is Fiore behind the plant creatures' attacks. He has just taken out all of the other soldiers and prepares to kill Sailor Moon with his newly extended [sharp & deadly] fingernails. Enter Tuxedo Kamen [mask] to save his girlfriend. Mamoru jumps in front of the oncoming attack and is impaled by the claw-like fingernails. He falls back losing his mask and hat.

This is one where I can see how it might need to be cut a little for younger viewers, but they cut too much. It seems they wanted you to GUESS that Tuxedo Kamen was injured in the process of protecting Sailor Moon. The nails come forward, Tuxedo Kamen screams, and then Moon is looking frightened. Poof, he falls back into her arms.

I can see how they might want to cut this for younger audiences, but for crying out loud, this was silly. There was no blood and the segment was shown in the form of shadows and silhouettes.

CHANGE 03 - Suffocation or Nose Tickle?
Okay, this did not need to be cut at all. It was a comedic scene that posed no threat. Usagi [serena] saved Chibi Usa [rini] by jumping through a window to avoid the flower creature from attacking her. Chibi Usa awakens to find Usagi still unconscious. In order to wake her up she sticks two pieces of tissue (or whatever it was) into her nostrils and covers her mouth. The scene plays out for a while, no talking or moving.... plays out.... makes you wonder if Usagi is ever going to run out of breath... suddenly Usagi jumps up screaming and panting for breath. Because of the dead silence the scene is surprising and funny when Usagi finally wakes up. The English version makes it look like Chibi Usa was just tickling her nose or something to that degree.

I can't figure this scene being cut except for maybe they don't want kids at home to try this out. Though, if they were going to cut something, why not the scene where Chibi Usa pulls a gun [turns out to be a dart gun] on Sailor Moon instead of this. The other scene implies more violence than this one.

    CHANGE 04 - Orchastra Fiasco!
The background music, or BGM, and Battle Song [moon revenge] were altered in the dubbed version of the movie. The music given to the Japanese version had character specific sounds for each transformation scene and attack. In the dubbed English version they were all bunched together and given the same kind of music. You can hear the original Japanese BGM in the newly dubbed SailormoonS series airing on Cartoon Network or you can buy the subbed movie and hear it there too!

Moon Revenge, I can almost understand them changing it to something in English. The problem was that they only recycled the battle song they used in the dubbed R series. It was kind of a rip off since the movie was giving all new music and background sounds from the series. Moon Revenge is a very intense song. The dubbed over song is quite mellow in comparison.

CHANGE 05 - Where have the lines gone?
Okay, I know they did this in the series, but why in the movie? I think they are going a little overboard with the censorship deal. As you can see, if you click on the link below, they have removed the lines from the girls' figures when they transform.
